Between 1920 and 1940, the institution became a hegemonically male study site, nurtured in an institutional ethos of discipline, responsibility, and scientific rationality, termed the "Esavian spirit." This "spirit" aimed at a responsible and capable student body in the agrarian sciences. One of the vehicles to spread the spirit was the student newspaper "O Bonde", which in 1945 and 1963 gave voice to the students of that student campus. In order to analyze the articles published in those journals, we observed that "O Bonde" functioned as a policing device for attitudes that deviated from those espoused by the "Esavian spirit". And by denouncing strange movements among students, "O Bonde" became a frontier field of different regimes of subjectivation, especially with regard to the production of masculinities among the students A Escola Superior de Agricultura e Veterinária (ESAV) foi inaugurada em 1926 e, em 1969, federalizada como Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV). Entre 1920 a 1940, a instituição se tornou um local de estudo hegemonicamente masculino, nutrido em um ethos institucional de disciplina, responsabilidade e racionalidade científica, denominado de “espírito esaviano”. Este “espírito” visava um corpo discente responsável e capacitado nas ciências agrárias. Um dos veículos de divulgação do “espírito esaviano” foi o jornal estudantil “O Bonde”, que de 1945 e 1963, deu voz aos estudantes daquele campus estudantil. Dedicando-nos, pois, ao procedimento de analisar artigos publicados naqueles jornal, observamos que “O Bonde” funcionava como recurso de policiamento de atitudes que destoassem daquelas defendidas pelo “espírito esaviano”.
