Discourse is taken as a singular communicative event that involves social actors in a specific environment. Journalism, as an act of the social word, inscribes the self and the other in situations of co-presence and mutual affectation. The communicational nature, proposed by Vera França, was adopted as a theoretical-methodological stance. The Critical Discourse Studies, proposed by Van Dijk, was used as data collection technique. The results indicated that the two newspapers built discourses contrary to the Pará division. O Liberal evidenced the market interest and political positioning according to the state government, treating Carajás and Tapajós as outsiders. Diário do Pará adopted an eminently political stance, in accordance with the interests of the RBA Group. O artigo objetiva identificar e compreender as práticas discursivas belenenses sobre o plebiscito no Pará, em 2011, a partir dos jornais impressos O Liberal e Diário do Pará. Discurso é tomado como um evento comunicativo singular que envolve atores sociais em um ambiente específico. O jornalismo, como ato de palavra social, inscreve o eu e o outro em situações de co-presença e mútua afetação. Adotou-se a natureza comunicacional, proposta por Vera França, como postura teórico-metodológica. Utilizou-se os Estudos Críticos do Discurso, propostos por Van Dijk, como técnica de coleta dos dados. Os resultados apontaram que os dois periódicos construíram discursos contrários à divisão do Pará. O Liberal evidenciou o interesse mercadológico e posicionamento político de acordo com o governo do Estado, tratando Carajás e Tapajós como forasteiros.
