This reformulation started to be outlined in the final chapter of the referred work when Kuhn drew an analogy between the scientific development and the Darwinian evolution. However, it only started to gain importance in the writings that followed The structure of scientific revolutions in the 1990s when he deepened the analogy in terms of speciation. Kuhn started then to conceive the development of science as evolutionary. His attention focuses on a pattern of development by the means of proliferation of specializations in the same format of the phenomenon of speciation in biological evolution. This new pattern is illustrated by the metaphor of the “tree of knowledge”. No presente trabalho pretendemos mostrar a reformulação feita por Kuhn de sua concepção do desenvolvimento científico, apresentada na obra A Estruturadas revoluções cientificas, para harmonizá-la com sua ideia de progresso que conduz à especialização do conhecimento. Essa reformulação começou a ser esboçada no capítulo final dessa obra, quando ele fez uma analogia entre o desenvolvimento cientifico e a evolução darwiniana, mas só veio a ganhar envergadura nos escritos Pós-Estrutura, da década de 90, quando ele aprofundou essa analogia, em termos de especiação. Kuhn passou a pensar, então, o desenvolvimento da ciência como evolucionário. A sua atenção concentra-se em um padrão de desenvolvimento por proliferação de especializações tomando como referência o fenômeno da especiação da evolução biológica. Esse novo padrão é ilustrado pela metáfora da “árvore do conhecimento”.
