The prostitutes who circulated in the republican and modern Belém lived in a socio-economic and culturally diverse space, a city of codes, rules and symbols influenced by the Belle Époque, a period in which prostitution gained greater visibility, previously reclusive to private care, the prostitute began to expose herself in the streets, boulevards and cafes. From the discourses on prostitution, I present the cultural changes and the implementation of new codes and rules of behavior. The arrival of foreign and national women in the Amazon. Discussions and narratives about the "white traffic" and the crusade against caftism. Through the crimes of pimping that the owners of pensions and brothels responded, I expose how the brothel world was profitable and contributed to the city's economy. How they acted doctors, hygienists and public authorities in an attempt to implement hygienic and disciplinary measures in the homes of prostitutes. I present the cases of infanticide and abortions committed by prostitutes and how they were judged and their acts displayed to society. an unwanted pregnancy. I discuss the institutionalization of medicine in Belém and what are the medical thoughts about the female body. I describe the arrival of the services of Prophylaxis of Venereal Diseases within the context of sanitarianism. The concern of doctors with the prostitutes defined as the main responsible for the “venereal disease.” Measures to regulate prostitution and initiatives to control to oar and to fix the women in a determined place to only exercise the prostitution there. I approach the moral discourses and how the prostitutes were not intimidated by this resource that tried to stop the sale of sex and their freedom to come and go in the city. I point out that the presence of alcohol and drunkenness was used by the judicial apparatus to incarcerate and control prostitutes. Finally, I tell a little about the affective life of the prostitutes, their loves, passions and the violence they suffered, for not fulfilling the desired model/standard of a woman. Nesta tese analiso os discursos médicos, higienistas, jurídicos e policiais sobre prostituição em Belém no período de 1900 a 1945, e como as meretrizes foram protagonistas e ativas diante desses mecanismos de controle. As meretrizes que circularam na Belém republicana e moderna, viveram num espaço socioeconômico e culturalmente diverso, urbe de códigos, regras e símbolos influenciados pela Belle Époque, período que a prostituição ganhou maior visibilidade, antes reclusa aos atendimentos privados, a prostituta passou a se expor nas ruas, boulevards e cafés. A partir dos discursos sobre prostituição apresento as mudanças culturais e a implantação de novos códigos e regras de comportamento. A chegada das mulheres estrangeiras e nacionais na Amazônia. As discussões e narrativas sobre os "tráfico de brancas” e a cruzada contra o caftismo. Através dos processos crimes de lenocínio que os donos de pensões e bordéis responderam, exponho como o mundo prostibular era rentável e contribuiu para a economia da cidade. Como agiram médicos, higienistas e poder público na tentativa de implantar medidas higiênicas e disciplinadoras nas habitações das meretrizes. Apresento os casos de infanticídios e abortos cometidos pelas meretrizes e de que maneira elas foram julgadas e seus atos exibidos para a sociedade. As estratégias das mulheres diante de uma gravidez indesejada. Discuto a institucionalização da medicina em Belém e quais os pensamentos médicos sobre o corpo feminino. Descrevo a chegada dos serviços da Profilaxia das Doenças Venéreas dentro do contexto do sanitarismo. A preocupação dos médicos com as meretrizes definidas como as grandes responsáveis pelos “mal venéreo”. As medidas de regulamentação da prostituição e as iniciativas de controlar e fixar as mulheres em determinado local para somente lá exercerem o meretrício. Abordo os discursos pautados na moralidade e como as meretrizes não se deixaram intimidar por mais esse recurso que tentava frear a venda de sexo e suas liberdades de ir e vir na cidade. Evidencio o uso do álcool pelas meretrizes e como a embriaguez foi utilizada pelo aparato judicial para encarcerar e controlar as prostitutas. Por fim, conto um pouco da vida afetiva das meretrizes, seus amores, paixões e as violências que sofriam, por não preencherem o modelo/padrão desejado de mulher.
