It is defended that traditional knowledge must be used for the benefit of the people who hold it, and that should occurs through direction and advice by the State. For this guideline to be used efficiently, it is necessary to carry out a plan, strategically listing how such management can be carried out. In this perspective, this study presents the management of the Intellectual Property of these peoples as an effective instrument for the application of the main pillar of ethnodevelopment, that is the observance and use of traditional culture fundamentally for the benefit of the local development of the territory where such peoples and traditional communities inhabit. It is demonstrated how such direction presents itself as a true historical reparation with regard to the history of Brazil in relation to the treatment of the original cultures and those coming from the African continent, as well as listing, in detail, the legal content that underlies the use of ethnodevelopment in territories where traditional peoples and communities are found. It also explains how the Intellectual Property tools present in Brazilian legislation can be used for this purpose. From this perspective, the field research carried out in two communities of the Marajó archipelago, located in the immediate Soure-Salvaterra region, is approached, demonstrating, based on verified facts, how this Intellectual Property management can be beneficial for the Marajoara region, and, consequently, to the Amazon region. Finally, the results of this research are presented, demonstrating which are the potential products based on traditional Marajoara knowledge that have marketing strength from the application of Intellectual Property management. It is concluded that there is a latent need for public policies that use Intellectual Property legislation in favor of the local development of traditional peoples and communities, as demonstrated in the Marajoara localities in the present research studied, strengthening this statement based on the entire national legal framework relating to the matter. Finally, a little atlas of the studied region is presented with all the cartography elaborated especially for this academic work. A teoria do etnodesenvolvimento pode ser utilizada como diretriz de governança para gestão territorial de espaços onde haja povos e/ou comunidades tradicionais, com o intuito principal de que se trate a cultura dessas populações como insumo fundamental para o seu desenvolvimento, respeitando-as, protegendo-as e mantendo a autonomia gerencial de tais comunidades. Desta forma, é defendido nesta dissertação que os conhecimentos tradicionais sejam utilizados em benefício dos próprios povos que os detêm, e que tal iniciativa ocorra através de um direcionamento e assessoramento por parte do Estado. Para que tal diretriz seja utilizada de forma eficiente, faz-se necessária a realização de um planejamento, elencando de forma estratégica como tal gestão poderá ser realizada. Nesta perspectiva, este estudo apresenta a gestão da Propriedade Intelectual desses povos como sendo um instrumento eficaz para a aplicação do principal pilar etnodesenvolvimentista, qual seja, a observância e utilização da cultura tradicional fundamentalmente em proveito do desenvolvimento local do território onde tais povos e comunidades tradicionais habitam. É demonstrado como tal direcionamento se apresenta como uma verdadeira reparação histórica no que diz respeito à história do Brasil quanto ao tratamento das culturas originárias e às vindas do continente africano, bem como elencando, de forma pormenorizada, o conteúdo jurídico que dá base para a utilização do etnodesenvolvimento em territórios onde se encontram povos e comunidades tradicionais. É explanado ainda como as ferramentas de Propriedade Intelectual presentes na legislação brasileira podem ser utilizadas para tal fim. Sob essa ótica, aborda-se a pesquisa de campo realizada em duas comunidades do arquipélago do Marajó, localizadas na região imediata Soure-Salvaterra, demonstrando, a partir de fatos constatados, como esta gestão da Propriedade Intelectual pode ser benéfica para a região marajoara e, consequentemente, amazônica. Por fim, apresentam-se os resultados da presente pesquisa demonstrando quais são os produtos potenciais embasados no conhecimento tradicional marajoara que têm força mercadológica a partir da aplicação da gestão de Propriedade Intelectual. Chega-se à conclusão de que há uma necessidade latente de que haja políticas públicas que utilizem a legislação de Propriedade Intelectual em prol do desenvolvimento local de povos e comunidades tradicionais, como demonstrado nas localidades marajoaras na presente pesquisa estudada, fortalecendo tal afirmação com base em todo o arcabouço jurídico pátrio relativo à matéria.
