The objective is to understand how this way of developing tourism can contribute to the endogenous development and autonomy of these communities. To achieve this analysis and understanding, the following specific objectives are: identifying community tourism experiences on Marajó Island, as a collective social practice; analyze the forms of local organization for the development of community-based tourism, the agents and activities involved in the process; characterize the profiles of tourists/visitors and analyze the socialization processes of these tourist experiences and the connections with the tourist trade; and problematize public policies related to tourism on the Island. The analysis of communitybased tourism practices was based on the principles of endogenous development, which values local resources and the participation of communities in the development process, and post-development, which questions traditional notions of development, bringing centrality and resistance of the place. The research also considered the perspectives of decoloniality, buen vivir and ecosocioeconomy, which propose a non-Eurocentric and more holistic view of development, considering power relations and the worldviews of local communities. The research is of an applied nature, with a qualitative and quantitative approach, with exploratory, descriptive and explanatory objectives, and bibliographical research procedures, field research and action research. The research results pointed to the emergence of an embryonic process of tourism in Marajó that takes place based on local initiatives, which despite the problems and limitations it presents, have generated socioeconomic benefits for communities, in contrast to the exclusionary conventional tourism model that has been occurring for decades in Marajó. The results of the thesis will contribute to the understanding of communitybased tourism practices on the island of Marajó and to reflection on fairer and more democratic development alternatives, considering local specificities and the communities perspectives. A presente tese analisa o turismo de base comunitária na ilha do Marajó, protagonizado pelas comunidades litorâneas do Caju-una, Céu e Pesqueiro, do município de Soure, que fazem parte da Reserva Extrativista Marinha de Soure, na busca de entender como as comunidades locais estão se apropriando do turismo. O objetivo é compreender como essa forma de desenvolver o turismo pode contribuir para o desenvolvimento endógeno e para a autonomia dessas comunidades. Para alcançar essa análise e compreensão, tem-se como objetivos específicos: identificar as experiências de turismo comunitário na Ilha do Marajó, enquanto prática social coletiva; analisar as formas de organização local para o desenvolvimento do turismo de base comunitária, os agentes e atividades envolvidos no processo; caracterizar os perfis dos turistas/visitantes e analisar os processos de socialização dessas experiências turísticas e as conexões com o trade turístico; e problematizar as políticas públicas relacionadas ao turismo na Ilha. A análise das práticas de turismo de base comunitária, foi embasada nos princípios do desenvolvimento endógeno, que valoriza os recursos locais e a participação das comunidades no processo de desenvolvimento, e do pós-desenvolvimento, que questiona as noções tradicionais de desenvolvimento trazendo a centralidade e resistência do lugar. A pesquisa também considerou as perspectivas da decolonialidade, buen vivir e ecossocioeconomia, que propõem uma visão não eurocêntrica e mais holística do desenvolvimento, considerando as relações de poder e as cosmovisões das comunidades locais. A pesquisa é de natureza aplicada, com uma abordagem qualitativa e quantitativa, com objetivos exploratórios, descritivos e explicativos, e procedimentos de pesquisa bibliográfica, pesquisa de campo e pesquisa-ação. Os resultados da pesquisa apontaram para o surgimento de um processo embrionário de turismo no Marajó que se dá a partir das iniciativas locais, que apesar dos problemas e limitações que apresenta, tem gerado benefícios socioeconômicos às comunidades, em contraposição ao modelo de turismo convencional excludente que ocorre há décadas no Marajó. Os resultados da tese contribuirão para a compreensão das práticas de turismo de base comunitária na ilha do Marajó e para a reflexão sobre alternativas mais justas e democráticas de desenvolvimento, considerando as especificidades locais e as perspectivas das comunidades.
