In this way, the present work aims to characterize the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the trade of wild fauna and its by-products intended for food, analyzing whether consumers associate game meat with the contagion of the new coronavirus and, consequently, if they believe that frequent consumption of wild animals can threaten Food and Nutritional Security in the city of Abaetetuba/PA. The field period was between September 2019 and November 2020, with some gaps between visits to Abaetetuba. The main instruments of the methodology used were semi-structured interviews in loco and a questionnaire registered via the internet. There was no collection of biological material, this verification being the responsibility of the photographic record and the specific literature. As a result of the investigation, it can be seen that the free fair of the "beira" of Abaetetuba still represents a place of preservation of social and cultural relations, which strengthen affective ties and local knowledge. In it, there is an extensive network of relationships in which the commercialization of wild animals remains rooted in a chain of affinities that characterize the local sociocultural and symbolic identity, in addition to representing an important source of income and/or economic complement. The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic impacted, to a certain extent, the trade and consumption of wild animals, since, with the low supply of animal protein at the fair and the increase in domestic meat (cattle, chicken, pork...), there was an increase in the consumption of game meat, even though the price of this has also been high in the pandemic period. Game meat has become a cheaper, healthier and more durable alternative (salted). Thus, many consumers said they did not associate the contagion of COVID-19 with the consumption of bushmeat, as well as they did not believe that the frequent consumption of wild animals could threaten Food and Nutrition Security in the municipality. CAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior É bem sabido que os animais silvestres e seus subprodutos seguem sendo manuseados em diversas culturas e sociedades, especialmente como base da dieta alimentar humana. Desse modo, o presente trabalho visou caracterizar o impacto da pandemia de COVID-19 no comércio da fauna silvestre e de seus subprodutos destinados à alimentação, analisando se os consumidores associam a carne de caça ao contágio do novo coronavírus e, consequentemente, se acreditam que o consumo frequente de animais silvestres pode ameaçar a Segurança Alimentar e Nutricional na cidade de Abaetetuba/PA. O período de campo foi entre setembro de 2019 e novembro de 2020, com alguns espaços de tempo entre as idas a Abaetetuba. Os principais instrumentos da metodologia empregada foram entrevistas semiestruturadas in loco e um questionário registrado via internet. Não houve coleta de material biológico, cabendo esta verificação ao registro fotográfico e à literatura específica. Como resultado da investigação, pode-se constatar que a feira livre da “beira” de Abaetetuba ainda representa um local de preservação das relações sociais e culturais, que fortalecem os laços afetivos e o saber local. Nela, existe uma extensa rede de relações na qual a comercialização de animais silvestres se mantém enraizada a uma cadeia de afinidades que caracterizam a identidade sociocultural e simbólica local, além de representar uma importante fonte de renda e/ou complemento econômico. O surgimento da pandemia da COVID-19 impactou, em certa medida, o comércio e o consumo de animais silvestres, pois, com o baixo abastecimento de proteína animal na feira e o encarecimento das carnes domésticas (gado, frango, porco...), ocorreu um aumento no consumo de carne de caça, mesmo que o preço desta também tenha sido elevado no período pandêmico. A carne de caça tornou-se uma alternativa mais barata, mais saudável e de maior durabilidade (vende-se salgada).
