It seeks to understand whether research develops skills not only in the classroom but also in other learning spaces. Created in 2009 by Unicamp, the ONHB aims to encourage the study and research of Brazilian History, promoting integration among schools, teachers, and students. The research was conducted in two private schools in Belém, Pará, involving both participants and non-participants of the ONHB. Discursive questionnaires were used to investigate students' perceptions of History Education and the influence of the competition on their development. The analysis focused on identifying how the use of historical sources and documents stimulates critical debates and varied thematic approaches, promoting reflective argumentation and students' protagonism both in the classroom and in the competition. Additionally, it sought to understand how non-participating students perceive the value of historical knowledge and the impact of the ONHB on their peers' development. The problematization arises from the perspective of behavioral changes among ONHB participants, questioning whether classroom History lessons limit students' critical capacity. Other inquiries include: the gap between History Education in Basic Education and academic research; whether History classes are outdated, overly content-driven, or less engaging; and what role teachers play in fostering student protagonism. The results indicate that the ONHB plays a fundamental role in transforming History Education in Brazil, broadening historical interpretations, developing critical thinking, and fostering research skills in students. The competition stands out by encouraging investigation and critical reflection on the past and present. In summary, the ONHB promotes participatory and meaningful education. Este trabalho investiga o Ensino de História como processo de produção de conhecimento a partir da participação de alunos na Olimpíada Nacional em História do Brasil (ONHB). Busca-se compreender se a pesquisa desenvolve habilidades não apenas em sala de aula, mas também em outros espaços de aprendizagem. Criada em 2009 pela Unicamp, a ONHB tem como objetivo incentivar o estudo e a pesquisa em História do Brasil, promovendo a integração entre escolas, professores e alunos. A pesquisa foi realizada em duas escolas particulares de Belém do Pará, envolvendo alunos participantes e não participantes da ONHB. Utilizou-se questionários discursivos para investigar a percepção dos estudantes sobre o Ensino de História e a influência da competição em suas formações. A análise centrou-se em identificar como a utilização de fontes e documentos históricos estimula debates críticos e abordagens temáticas variadas, promovendo a argumentação reflexiva e o protagonismo dos alunos tanto em sala de aula quanto na competição. Ademais, buscou-se compreender como alunos não participantes percebem o valor do saber histórico e o impacto da ONHB no desenvolvimento de seus colegas. A problemática levantada parte da perspectiva de mudança de comportamento dos participantes da ONHB, questionando se as aulas de História em sala de aula limitam a capacidade crítica dos alunos. Outros questionamentos incluem: o distanciamento entre Ensino de História na Educação Básica e a pesquisa acadêmica; se as aulas de História estão defasadas, conteudistas ou menos atrativas; e qual o papel do professor em promover o protagonismo discente? Os resultados apontam que a ONHB desempenha um papel fundamental na transformação do Ensino de História no Brasil, ampliando interpretações históricas, desenvolvendo criticidade e promovendo habilidades de pesquisa nos estudantes. A competição destaca-se por estimular a investigação e a reflexão crítica sobre o passado e o presente. Em síntese, a ONHB promove uma educação participativa e significativa.
