Resumo:
The study aims to analyze how tourism contributes to the sustainable management of urban fringe, discussing the concepts and practices of urban planning and management in river shores of Belém (PA), having Ver – O – Rio Complex the empirical object research, place of tourism and leisure located on the edge of town. The analysis was based on a survey of guidelines and tools for urban planning and management of the interventions made by the mayor administration of Belem to the urban waterfront space. Besides the theme presented the conceptual framework also covers studies on tourism, analyzing its aspects as a social phenomenon, used in this debate as a tool that contributes both to sustainable management of the urban fringe and inclusion of local people involved in the process, the perspective of sustainable tourism, collecting data and reflecting more specifically on the social actors involved in Ver-O-Rio complex since its opening, such as traders that work in the vicinity, people who have licensees to work in the kiosks and street vendors who work there. The method was a case study working through the type of approach qualitative to analyze the type of historical-descriptive. The study shows that tourism contributes to sustainable management of the spaces in urban fringes as it promotes socioeconomic mobility, employment generation and income and the participation of local people in the process.
