Resumo:
The purpose of this work is to discuss the process of militarization of the captaincy of Grão-Pará in the middle of the eighteenth century. This addresses the defense policies engendered by the Portuguese crown for that region. For the analysis we used as object of study the paid troop, because this is the professional military force in the colony, and it is also responsible for undertaking actions of war and trim. Therefore, this study demands to develop and discuss issues such as: the representation of companies paid in various correspondences between the colony and the kingdom, and from that perceive the military state of the captaincy, the composition of the troop through the analysis of impressment and its multiple meanings for the soldiers and for the region, and the mobilization of this defense force by mapping the detachment of soldiers and troop movements in Grão-Pará. This is also the implication of such mobilization in the recruited family.
