The toponymic studies have as scope the deprehension of the lexicon of certain territories, considering the historical and socio-cultural formation of the people that live there, specifically through the names given to the social circulation places, such as streets, waterways, districts, cities, etc., evidencing both synchronic and diachronic aspects of speech. The study deals with a discussion about the construction of memory and toponymic identity of this locality, demonstrating the values attributed by the interlocutors to their birth and/or living places. The problematization is based on the following guiding question: What power relations are present in the constitution of this nominalization? For this reason, I considered, for this research, to work with the theoretical assumptions of Postcolonial Anthropology and the studies on Oral Narratives. Thus, I start, in principle, a formal survey, not escaping too much from the traditional methodology of toponymic research, but considering, in the interviews, the alternative toponymy as well, that is, unofficial, vernacular, trying to motivate the interlocutor to seek, in his memory, the identity of such name and its relation to the life of those who live(d) there, whether from the social, political, economic or religious point of view. A presente experiência trata da problematização acerca do significado dos nomes de lugares de circulação de pessoas, os topônimos, no município de Benevides, mais precisamente no bairro de Murinin. Os estudos toponímicos têm por escopo a depreensão do léxico de determinados territórios, tendo em vista a formação histórica e sociocultural do povo que aí habita, especificamente por intermédio dos nomes dados aos locais de circulação social, tais como ruas, hidrovias, bairros, cidades, etc., evidenciando tanto aspectos sincrônicos quanto diacrônicos dos falares. O estudo trava uma discussão sobre a construção da memória e da identidade toponímica desta localidade, demonstrando os valores atribuídos pelos interlocutores aos seus locais de nascimento e/ou moradia. A problematização está baseada na seguinte questão norteadora: Que relações de poder estão presentes na constituição dessa nominalização? Por esse motivo, considerei, para esta pesquisa, trabalhar com os pressupostos teóricos da Antropologia Pós-Colonial e dos estudos sobre Narrativas Orais. Assim, faço, em princípio, um levantamento formal, não fugindo em demasia da metodologia tradicional da pesquisa toponímica, mas considerando, nas entrevistas, também a toponímia alternativa, isto é, não oficial, vernacular, tentando motivar o interlocutor a buscar, em sua memória, a identidade de tal nome e sua relação com a vida dos que ali habitam/habitavam, bem como que categorias sociais foram silenciadas (e por quê?), seja do ponto de vista social, político, econômico, seja do religioso e familiar.
