Its process is characterized as na effort for the understanding of meanings of children's and adolescents' social schemes in a public school in the municipality of Campinas through the decoding of drawings and texts connected to the content of interviews made with the participants in the research. The meanings of the schemes were outlined based on the relationship between the real experience (the real school) and the aimed one (the ideal school). The context of these schemes was established with the objective of discussing this population's citzenship status, a population which has been thrown to the rear end of the chain of power relationships in our society. The appreciation of the discourse of the child and the adolescent while political subjects has permitted the identification of the content of the social criticsm present in drawings, texts, and interviews.This paper's conclusion points to the fact that the analysed schemes gave relevant weight to the subjects' informal exchange of experiences in the school enviroment outside the classroom, establishing a discussion between this non-institutional space and the symbols representa tive of the institional power which showed the relativeness of the pedagogical importance of the institution.The social criticism present in this characterization of the school points to the necessity of the establishement of new relationships CAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior Este trabalho tem a intenção de valorizar o discurso da criança e do adolescente na perspectiva de verificar a compreensão que têm de suas condições concretas de vida tendo como ponto de referência o cotidiano escolar. o seu processo caracteriza-se como um esforço de entendimento de significados de representações sociais de crianças e adolescentes de uma Escola Pública do Município de Campinas, valendo-se da decifração de desenhos e textos articulados ao conteúdo de entrevistas realizadas com participantes da pesquisa. Os significados das representações ficaram delineados tendo como balizamento a relação entre o vivido (Escola Real) e o almejado (Escola Ideal). A contextualização destes significados foi estabelecida tendo em vista a discussão da situação de cidadania desta população que se encontra atirada para o final da cadeia das relações de poder em nossa sociedade. A valorização do discurso da criança e do adolescente na qualidade de sujeitos políticos permitiu a identificação do conteúdo de crítica social de que são portadores desenhos, textos e entrevistas. A conclusão deste trabalho aponta para o fato de que as representações analisadas deram um peso relevante aos espaços de convivência informal da escola estabelecendo uma discussão destes com os símbolos de poder institucional, ficando o peso do significado pedagógico da instituição relativizado.
