Sclerotium rolfisii Sacc. is a pathogen whose action, although restricted to the region of the neck of the plant, can survive in crop remains for a long time (FPPS et al. 1951). For the development of field work aiming at the biological control of this pathogen, there is a need for artificial soil infestation. Aiming to determine the inoculum density of S. rolfisii for inoculation by soil infestation, the concentrations of 0, 200, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1200, 1400, and 1600 sclerotia/e of soil were tested. After testing 12 mathematical regression models to analyze the results, the model expressed by the equation Y = 13.625 + 0.219.10-1 X + 0.337.10-4.X2 - O.232.10 -7 X3 (R2 = 0.9465), where Y = % infected plant and X = ideal inoculum density for inoculation by soil infestation is 1200 sclerotia/e soil.
