Among these species, Desmoncus polycanthos (Jacitara) and Manicaria saccifera Gaertn (bussú) were chosen. The material was collected at Mocambo Reserve, MPEG Zoobotanical Park and in Afuá-Pa, following the usual techniques in anatomy. D- polycanthos, amphistomatic, with hypodermis attached to the epidermal cells. Vascular bundles of the mesophyll surrounded by a parenchymatic sheath, containing within it triangular silica crystals. At the level of the central vein there is a reinforcement of fibers. Stem atactostele with the bundles involved by fibers. The leaf fibers are slightly wavy with rhombic to tapered ends, varying from 470 µm to 1620 µm in length. Stem fibers range from 540 - 4160 µm M. sacciofera, hypoestomatic, bundles dispersed in the mesophyll surrounded by a parenchymatic sheath. Leaf fibers range from 350 - 3129 µm in length and bract fibers range from 510 - 1760 µm. Este trabalho faz parte de um projeto abrangente que tem como objetivo estudar anatomicamente os órgãos vegetativos de algumas espécies de Arecaceae, além de analisar microquímica e quantitativamente as fibras desses órgãos. Dentre essas espécies foram escolhidas Desmoncus polycanthos (Jacitara) e Manicaria saccifera Gaertn (bussú). O material foi coletado na Reserva do Mocambo, no Parque Zoobotânico do MPEG e em Afuá-Pa, seguindo-se as técnicas usuais em anatomia. D- polycanthos, anfiestomática, com hipoderme anexa às células epidérmicas. Feixes vasculares do mesófilo rodeado por uma bainha parenquimática, contendo em seu interior cristais triangulares de sílica. A nível da nervura central existe um reforço de fibras. Caule atactostélico com os feixes envolvidos por fibras. As fibras da folha apresentam-se ligeiramente onduladas com as terminações rômbica a afilada, variando de 470 µm a 1620 µm de comprimento. As fibras do caule variam de 540 - 4160 µm M. sacciofera, hipoestomática, feixes dispersos no mesófilo rodeado por uma bainha parenquimática.
