It started in June 1992. It is based on the collection of material from public places, such as squares, parks, streets, backyards, etc., and forest reserves (Mocambo and Utinga), besides the analysis of material from the herbarium of MPEG. The available data are not sufficient to draw definite conclusions, since the material is still being collected. The results of this work can provide data for the use of bryophytes in environmental biomonitoring, using the collection of material in areas of great anthropological interference, in contrast to the material found in areas away from the urban center (forest reserves), where human influence is practically nonexistent. For this, however, prior knowledge of the species that occur in both environments is necessary, thus leading to a broad knowledge of the bryophytic flora of Belém. Está sendo realizada uma pesquisa de briófitas da área urbana de Belém. Foi iniciada em junho de 1992. Baseia-se na coleta de material em logradouros públicos, como praças, parques, ruas, quintais, etc, e, reservas florestais (Mocambo e Utinga), além de análise do material do herbário do MPEG. Os dados disponíveis não são suficientes para tirar conclusões definitivas, uma vez que ainda está se coletando material. Os resultados deste trabalho poderão fornecer dados para a utilização das briófitas no biomonitoramento ambiental, servindo-se da coleta de material em áreas de grande interferência antropológica, em contraste com o material encontrado em áreas afastadas do centro urbano (reservas florestais), cuja influência humana é praticamente inexistente.
