During two distinct periods in 1991, rainy (March/April) and dry (Sept/Oct), soil, grass and bone tissue samples were collected from 42 bubalinos, regardless of breed and sex, on three farms in the municipalities of Muaná and Ponta de Pedra. 14 animals per farm were randomly selected according to age: group 1(lactating) of average age of 6 months and group 2 (non-lactating) of average age of 14 months, in order to interrelate the mineral deficiency (Ca and P) of soil, plant and animal tissue. Low levels of Co and available P were found in the soil, indicating extreme coherence, strongly acidic soil and high levels of aluminum. The calcium level in the grass was close to the minimum daily limit required for bubaline species, and the phosphorus level was below that required for bubaline species, and the phosphorus level was below that recommended. The content of bone Ca and P was low in all groups, when compared to normal levels in the bovine species, indicating deficiency, and the lowest levels were found in the rainy season. The results confirmed the need for mineral supplementation (Ca and P) in the species, in the growing phase, raised in the studied micro-region, especially in this period.
