The lizard Neusticurus bicarinatus (Linnaeus) is known to occur in the eastern Amazon region. The need for better specific characterization and the existence of a large amount of material deposited in the Herpetological Collection of MPEG, led to the execution of the present work, aiming to verify specific variation, sexual dimorphism and allometric growth, through the analysis of meristic and morphometric characteristics. From 107 specimens from MPEG (10M and 97F), all from the eastern region of Pará, the following variation was obtained: (1)Tail: 1.06 to 2.05 times the rostral-cloacal length (x=1,80, n= 65); (2)Hind limb: 1.31 to 2.27 times the length of the forelimbs (x=1,58); (3)Head length: 0.87 to 1.87 times the length of the forelimbs (x=1,58); (4)Head length: 0.87 to 1.07 times the length of the forelimbs (x=1,58). (3)Head length: 0.87 to 1.49 times its width (x=1,14); (4 )Head width: 1.60 to 2.28 times its height (x=1,92); (5)Head length: 1.77 to 2.70 times its height (x=2,18); (6)Head length: 0.23 to 0.30 times the rostroanal length (x=0,25); (7)Rostro-anal length: 1.77 to 2.70 times its height (x=2,18); (6)Head length: 0.23 to 0.30 times the rostro-anal length (x=0,25); (7)Rostro-anal length: 1.00 to 1.00 times the rostro-anal length (x=0,25); (8)Head length: 1.00 to 1.00 times the rostro-anal length (x=0,25). rostroanal length: 1.78 to 2.67 times the length of the hind limb (x=2.18) of hind limb(x=2.15); (8)Supralabials5 to 7;(9)lnfralabials 3 to 5; (1O)Lower eyelid scales 3 to 6; (11)Temporals 58 to 131; (12)Paravertebral dorsal tubercles40 to 54; (13)Longitudinal ventrals 23 to27; (14)Transverse ventrals 6 to 9; (15)Rows of scales around the body 37 to 51; (16)Subdigital lamellae on the 4th rabbit 20 to 26; (17)Subdigital lamellae on the 4th finger 13 to 18; and (18)Pores (preanal + femoral) 4 to 48. From the characters analyzed there was a clear sexual dimorphism related to the number of pores: males 39 to 48 (n=10) and females 4 to 16 (n=98). Specific recharacterization is needed for the characters (6), (13), (14) and (15) that amplify the values cited in the literature. |
