The high rate of substitution of primary forest areas by secondary vegetation has caused worldwide concern, since it causes problems of environmental degradation and consequently, loss of diversity of forest resources. The objective of this work is to propose the use of secondary forest in areas of the Zona Bragantina as a source of generating benefits through the identification of medicinal plants in this area. Based on the results obtained in previous floristic inventories, a bibliographic research was carried out in order to identify the plants mentioned in literature as medicinal. Later, based on these results, interviews with local inhabitants were carried out in order to find out which of the inventoried plants, mentioned in literature as medicinal, are used by them, as well as to verify other possible species of capoeira used for this same purpose. Among the 72 plant species inventoried, 17 were cited in the literature as medicinal. Of these 17, about 25%, and another 12 species not included in the inventory, are used by the inhabitants for medicinal purposes. This survey revealed that there are still several species of plants mentioned in the literature as medicinal that occur in the capoeira areas of the Bragantina Zone, but that their potential has not yet been fully utilized.
