Despite the great diversity of species of anuran amphibians in the Eastern Amazon, the basic biological characteristics of most species remain poorly studied and the very identification of species that occur in the Belém region is complicated by the lack of descriptions available in the literature. This study aims to describe characteristics of the feeding, reproductive and behavioral biology of the most common species in the region of Belém, particularly in the Guamá Ecological Research Area (APEG/EMBRAP NCPATU), through literature review and new laboratory observations. Of the 45 species recorded for the region, information was gathered on the relevant literature and geographic distribution of all species, and on biological characteristics, generally described for other regions, of 35 species. Data on diet were found for 18 species, on reproduction for 25 species, and on behavior and habitat for 28 species. In 6 species, for which no observations were found in the literature, stomach contents and gonads were examined in the laboratory, where data on diet, fecundity, and reproductive period were obtained. The results of the laboratory observations and the literature combined constitute an accessible source of information on the anurofauna of the region and a basis for more detailed studies on these species. |
