In this way, Gurupá is inserted in the religious mission context, due to the important role of Religious Orders in its territory during the 17th century, a period in which a series of documentary sources with primary information was produced. Our goal is to organize these documental, pictorial and iconographic sources in a Data Bank, enabling a considerable amount of technical data for future field research in Gurupá. For this, we compiled these sources in their original forms, most of which are bound in the codices of the Public Archive of Pará and in the session "Rare Works" of the Public Library of Centur. Through the previous analysis of these documents, and also through research in secondary sources, we know that the locality developed from the construction of the fort of Santo Antônio de Gurupá by the Dutch, in 1616, and that before the arrival of the Europeans, the place was known by the Indians as Mariocahy. Missionary work began in 1654 with the Carmelites, and the Jesuits arrived the following year, establishing "missionary villages" in the region. With the Repartition of the villages in 1693, they were replaced by the Friars of Piedade. The European penetration into this area resulted in a high degree of assimilation and acculturation of the natives of the Amazon, due to the complex relationships between these cultures. A necessidade de manter o funcionamento eficiente do Sistema Colonial na foz do rio Amazonas, levou a corte portuguesa à subjugar nações indígenas ao seu poder, através da organização de missões e do processo de catequese religiosa, tendo assim os missionários papel decisivo na conquista territorial e nas transformações sócio-culturais, políticas e econômicas dos povos da região amazônica. Dessa forma, Gurupá está inserida no contexto de missão religiosa, devido à importante atuação de Ordens Religiosas em seu território durante o século XVII, período em que se produziu uma série de fontes documentais com informações primárias. Nosso objetivo é organizar essas fontes documentais, pictóricas e iconográficas num Banco de Dados, possibilitando uma quantidade considerável de dados técnicos para futuras prospecções de campo em Gurupá. Para tanto, compilamos essas fontes em suas formas originais, das quais a maioria encontra-se encadernada nos códices do Arquivo Público do Pará e na sessão de "Obras Raras" da Biblioteca Pública do Centur. Através da análise prévia desses documentos, e também da pesquisa em fontes secundárias, sabemos que a localidade desenvolveu-se a partir da edificação do forte de Santo Antônio de Gurupá pelos Holandeses, em 1616, e que antes da chegada dos europeus, o lugar era conhecido pelos índios como Mariocahy. A atuação missionária iniciou-se, em 1654, com os Carmelitas, tendo os Jesuítas chegado no ano seguinte, estabelecendo "aldeias missionárias" na região. Com a Repartição das aldeias em 1693, foram substituídos pelos frades da Piedade.
