However, several authors warn about the variations that may occur due to factors such as maturation and age of the cambial tissue. The studies that address the anatomical variation in the size of cellular elements in species of tropical climate are still few, compared to those of temperate climate, since the tropical species have anatomical structures much more specialized and complex. This work aims to contribute to the anatomical knowledge of the wood of Goupia glabra Aubl. To analyze the length, wall thickness and width of the fiber lumen, temporary slides were made with macerated material. The data obtained showed that the variables analyzed did not follow a defined pattern of variation. According to Toumis (1968) there may be an influence of the age of the vascular cambium on the structure of the wood. According to the author, the cambium may present periods of juvenility, maturity and senescence, but the same author alerts that in some species the duration of these periods is difficult to be defined. In Goupia glabra, the dimensions of the fibers do not allow a distinction between juvenile and adult wood. However, to affirm that there is no distinction between these woody elements, other variables need to be analyzed, such as: frequency, diameter and length of the vessel elements, rays, etc.
