It is known that the "greenhouse effect" has been provoking an increase in coastal erosion due to the rise in sea level. In Pará, an example of coastal erosion is the area of Boa Vista, in the municipality of Quatipurú (neighborhood of Castelo) with accelerated retreat on the left bank of the Campinho river (unraveling of the river embankment, destruction of houses, streets, electric grid, and salinization of wells). About 70 families live there at risk. Bibliographic analysis, field work with sediment and water collection, interviews with the community. The samples were studied in the laboratory of the CCTE, using traditional techniques (crushing, sieving, granulometric analysis). The sedimentological section of the slope shows the presence, from bottom to top, of silty-clayey sediments covered by a thick layer of very fine sand, not able to resist accelerated erosion. The retreat of the slope influences the water table, causing the salinization of the water in the wells. Remote sensing allowed the spatial vision of the area and the elaboration of a digitalized map of the study area. The erosion of the left bank of the Campinho river is a natural phenomenon, but whose impact has profound social and economic consequences and needs to be urgently solved between the resident community and the municipal authorities. |
