We intend to establish abundance patterns for families of the order Diptera present in the litterfall, in relation to the experimental and control areas of Esecaflor, evaluating the effect of water exclusion on this group. The individuals were collected with Pitfall Traps and kept in the laboratory in 70% alcohol for identification. From June 2001 to November 2003, nine collections were made, two before and seven after the establishment of the experiment. So far, the material from the first six collections has been identified to the family level. The data show that the diptera did not show a significant difference in abundance between the plots in the pre-exclusion period, and after the implementation of the experiment this difference became significant for the Phoridae in the wettest months, April 2002 (T test M.O') and March 2003 (T test Tp. 0.00")' showing a decrease in abundance in the plot with water exclusion. The family Cecidomyiidae showed better response to the drier environment, significant difference between plots could be observed in the month of November 2002 (Test T}'.0. 009')' Drosophilidae responded better to a wetter site (control plot), showing significant difference among plots (Test X2 P.O.03341) in all months. Sciaridae was more abundant in the drier period, but showed no significant difference between plots for both periods (Test Xl P pre-excheão.0.9')92 eP ", cl,", o.0.J4(87)' Responses to water exclusion are variable among Diptera families. Continued taxonomic identification, advancing to the species level, will allow for greater precision in analyses of the responses of organisms to the microclimatic changes produced by the experiment. Este Projeto faz parte do Experimento Esecaflor (LBA), que consiste em estimar possíveis efeitos do "El níno" com a indução de uma seca artificial, reduzindo cerca de 80% da água da chuva que chega ao solo, de um hectare da floresta de terra firme na Estação Científica Ferreira Penna-Melgaço/Pará. Pretende-se estabelecer padrões de abundância para as famílias da Ordem Diptera presentes no folhiço, em relação às áreas experimental e controle do Esecaflor, avaliando o efeito da exclusão de água sobre este grupo. Os indivíduos foram coletados com Armadilhas Pitfall e mantidos no laboratório em álcool a 70% para identificação. As coletas procederam-se em intervalos de 4 meses, de junho de 2001 a Novembro de 2003, num total de nove coletas, duas anteriores ao estabelecimento do experimento e sete posteriores ao mesmo. Até o momento o material das seis primeiras coletas foi identificado em nível de famílía. Os dados mostram que os dípteros não apresentaram diferença significativa na abundância entre as parcelas, no período de pré-exclusão, e a partir da implementação do experimento esta diferença tornou-se significativa para os Phoridae nos meses mais úmidos, Abril de 2002 (Teste T M.O') e Março de 2003 (Teste Tp. 0.00")' demonstrando diminuição da abundância na parcela com exclusão de água. A família Cecidomyiidae mostrou responder melhor ao ambiente mais seco, podendo ser observada diferença significativa entre as parcelas, no mês de novembro de 2002 (Teste T}'.0. 009')' Drosophilidae respondeu melhor a um local mais úmido (parcela controle), apresentando diferença significativa entre as parcelas (Teste X2 P.O.03341) em todos os meses. Sciaridae foi mais abundante no período mais seco, porém não apresentou diferença significativa entre as parcelas para ambos os períodos (Teste Xl P pré-excheão.0.9')92 eP “, cl,”, o.0.J4(87)' As respostas à exclusão de água são variáveis entre as famílias de Diptera.
