This work aims to demonstrate the methodology used for the analysis of the ceramic material collected during the prospections with emphasis on typology. Initially the material was cleaned, then the simple and decorated fragments were separated and numbered. The analysis identified characteristics of the ceramic fragments such as: shape, antiplastic, firing type, thickness, dimensions and surface treatment of the fragments. A total of 592 ceramic fragments were quantified, being 496 bodies, 88 borders, 4 bases, 1 appliqué and 1 clay ball. Regarding the decorations of the bodies, 354 are simple (undecorated), 117 corrugated, 18 incised, 4 brushed, 3 scraped, 2 ungulate, 2 dotted, 1 rolled and 2 printed. As for the borders 56 are plain and 32 decorated - 5 ungulate, 22 incised and 5 carved. The ceramic tradition defined for the region, the predominance of crushed rock as antiplastic and of corrugated as decoration, as well as the dating (between 500 and 1600 AD) and the geographic location of the sites along the rivers, corroborate the hypothesis of Figueiredo (1977), in which the region would have been occupied by groups belonging to the Tupiguarani ceramic tradition. A área do Projeto Salobo está inserida na Floresta Nacional Tapirapé-Aquiri 97 (FLONATA),no município de Marabá, sudeste do estado do Pará, onde foram realizadas prospecções para a identificação de sítios arqueológicos, no período de maio a outubro de 2003. Este trabalho tem por objetivo demonstrar a metodologia utilizada para a análise do material cerâmico coletado durante as prospecções com ênfase na tipologia. Inicialmente realizou-se a limpeza do material, em seguida separaram-se os fragmentos simples dos decorados, e posteriormente foram numerados. A análise identificou características dos fragmentos cerâmicos tais como: forma, antiplástíco, tipo de queima, espessura, dimensões e tratamento de superfície dos fragmentos. Foram quantificados 592 fragmentos cerâmicos, sendo 496 corpos, 88 bordas, 4 bases, 1 aplique e 1 bola de argila. No que diz respeito às decorações dos corpos, 354 são simples (não decorados), 117 corrugados, 18 incisos, 4 escovados, 3 raspados, 2 ungulados, 2 ponteados, 1 roletado e 2 impressos. Quanto às bordas 56 são simples e 32 decoradas - 5 unguladas, 22 incisas e 5 entalhadas.
