The fishes of the Callichthyidae family are distinguished from the others by having their bodies covered with bony plates distributed in two series on the flank, one in the upper series and another in the lower series. They have a small mouth with a pair of barbels at each corner. They are sedentary fish with slow swimming habits, known as "tamoatá". This work aimed to systematically study the specimens of the Callichthyidae family from the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi's ichthyological collection. The study of the collections is essential for Systematics and Taxonomy, functioning as a permanent source of data on biodiversity. The specimens were morphologically analyzed with the aid of a stereoscopic microscope, with magnifications ranging from 10 to 40x. Measurements were made with the aid of a pachymeter to the tenth of a millimeter. Some specimens were identified as Hoplosternum littorale and, in the present work, their identifications were corrected to H. punctatum, H. magdalenae, Leptoplosternum beni, L. altamazonicum, Megalechis thoracatus; M. personatus. One specimen previously identified as Callichthys callichtys was re-identified as Hoplosternum sp. The specimens of Corydoras sp. 1 were identified to the specific level (Corydoras trilineatus). To date, 82 specimens have been analyzed, being Callichthys callichthys (n=1) Dianema sp. (n=1), Hoplosternum littorale . (n=40), H. magdalenae (n=2), H. punctatum (n=3), Hoplosternum sp. (n=3), Lepthoplosternum altamazonico (n=2), L. beni (n=1), Lepthoplosternum sp.(n=4), Megalechis personatus (n=7), M. thoracatus.(n=8) and Corydoras trilineatus (n=1 O). Based on the occurrence and specific morphological characteristics of each taxon, the current study promoted a thorough analysis of species belonging to the family Callichthyidae.
