This language is at risk of extinction because it is spoken by a small number of indigenous people, about 150 individuals. Aware of this situation, the Arara demand that the results of research projects carried out on their language be brought back to the community in a practical way that will benefit them. Building a dictionary is one of these demands. The present subproject consists of the creation of a Karo-Portuguese dictionary that will not only bring back to the Arara community practical results of research projects in their language, but will also provide access to written material in that language. The Karo-Portuguese dictionary is important to ensure written records in the language and can help the Indians in the education process to learn Karo orthography. In the first phase of the implementation of this subproject, the Toolbox software was chosen, and a special font (Karo Times New Roman) was created for use in the Karo language database entries. The data are original data, and were collected by the researcher Nilson Gabas, Jr. and Sebastião Arara. The input of lexical items into the database required the definition of eleven input fields, which we intend to present and justify. Several lexical items of all Karo word classes were entered into the database, such as: verbs (transitive and intransitive), adjectives, nouns (alienable and inalienable), ideophones, particles, and conjunctions. A língua Karo, falada pelos índios Arara de Rondônia, é a única representante da família linguística Ramarama (Gabas, 2000), tronco Tupi (Rodrigues, 1964). Essa língua encontra-se em risco de extinção pelo fato de ser falada por um número pequeno de indígenas, cerca de 150 indivíduos. Cientes dessa situação, é uma demanda dos Arara que resultados de projetos de pesquisas feitos com sua língua sejam retomados para a comunidade de forma prática, de modo que venha a beneficiá-Ios. Construir um dicionário constitui uma dessas exigências. O presente subprojeto consiste na elaboração de um dicionário Karo-Português, através do qual não apenas restituirá à comunidade Arara resultado prático de pesquisas realizadas com sua língua, como também possibilitará o acesso ao material escrito na língua em questão. O dicionário Karo-Português é importante para assegurar o registro escrito na língua, podendo auxiliar os índios no processo de educação no aprendizado da ortografia Karo. Na primeira fase da execução deste subprojeto, fora escolhido o software Toolbox, além de ter sido criada uma fonte especial (Karo Times New Roman) para utilização nas entradas do banco de dados da língua Karo. Os dados são dados originais, e foram coletados pelo pesquisador Nilson Gabas, Jr. e por Sebastião Arara. A entrada de itens lexicais no banco de dados demandou a definição de onze campos de entrada, os quais pretendemos apresentar e justificálos.
