Nomenclatural Types are fundamental botanical specimens for the elaboration of taxonomic revisions and monographs. The preservation of these specimens is extremely important for taxonomy and systematics, because it is often necessary to consult them to carry out the process of botanical identification. The computerization of the collection with specimens considered as Nomenclatural Types is essential for the conservation, organization, survey, optimization of data consultation and the dissemination of these specimens. The computerization process was carried out using the BRAHMS (Botanical Research And Herbarium Management System) program, provided by the University of Oxford. Initially, a survey of how many specimens of "Types" were in the general collection was carried out, and only after a thorough analysis could these specimens be certified as Types. For the identification of the specimens, the original works of the surveyed taxa were located through Index Kewensis, Flora Neotropica and websites (MOBOT, IPNI). Based on the work princeps, the Type in question was classified, based on the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature (IBCN); then, such types were organized together with their diagnoses in red folders, according to the international standard. To date, 169 specimens belonging to the following families have been recorded: Lauraceae (30), Linaceae (3), Malpighiaceae (42), Humiriaceae (48), Rubiaceae (2), Sapotaceae (7), Meliaceae (1), Moraceae (1), Leguminosae (Caesalp. 35). A list of these Types is presented, with their respective categories (holotype, isotype etc), including the Herbarium record number, the specific epithet with the respective author, collection r and number, the citation of the work princeps, as well as the image of the specimens analyzed. This information is being transported to the IAN Herbarium database and will soon be available on the Internet. |
