Floristic and taxonomic studies on lycophytes and monilophytes (pteridophytes) are being developed in several areas of the state of Pará. Thus, the present study refers to the species occurring on Cotijuba Island, which makes up the insular region of Belém. The area covers approximately 1,800 ha at 1°28'03" 5 - 48°29'18". The island consists of dryland forest, capoeira, campina, igapó, várzea, sandy vegetation and urban areas. The collection was carried out according to the usual techniques for vascular plants and the identification of the specimens collected was based on specialized literature. The testimonial material was deposited in the MG Herbarium (Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi). Cotijuba Island is represented by 12 families, 23 genera and 36 species. The most representative families were Pteridaceae with seven species [Adiantum /atifo/ium Lam., Ananthacorus angustifo/ius (Sw.) Underw. & Maxon, Ceratopteris tha/ictroides (L.) Brongn., Hecistopteris pumi/a (Spreng.) J. Sm., Pityrogramma ca/omeanos (L.) Link, Po/ytaenium guayanense (Hieron.) Alston, Vittaria /ineata (L.)Sm.l, Hymenophyllaceae with six species [Trichomanes ankersii C. Parker ex Hook. & Grev., T. hostmannianum (Klotzsch) Kunze, T. pedicellatum Desv., T. pinnatinervium Jenman, T. pinnatum Hedw. and T. punctatum Poir. ssp. labiatum (Jenman) Wess. Boer], Dryopteridaceae with five species [Cyclodyum meniscioides (Willd.) c. Presl varus meniscioides, E/aphog/ossum disc%r(Kuhn) C. Chr., E. /a
