Resumo:
This book celebrates the tradition of the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi in the study of the Natural History of the Amazon, with a focus on the field of Entomology. The work specifically highlights the group of horseflies (Diptera: Tabanidae), particularly the genus Fidena, and represents one of the most comprehensive revisions of this group in the Neotropical region. The author, with support from 27 collections worldwide, presents an extensive study with 1,167 figures, including photographs and drawings. The research describes 112 species, 24 of which are new, as well as reassessing and expanding the geographical distributions of various species. The book includes a key for identifying females of 109 species and is the result of years of work, scientific exchange, and dedication. With this contribution, the book is expected to have a significant impact on knowledge about the Fidena group, assisting in species identification and fostering further scientific advancements in the field.
