Resumo:
The State of Pará has advanced considerably in the creation of Conservation Units (UC), with a third of its territory destined for these protected areas, always emphasizing productive diversity, considered one of the pillars of multidimensional sustainability in the Amazon context. Due to such relevance, this research aims to identify, assess and measure the degree of sustainability of the 13 agroecosystems of the Castanheira Community, belonging to the Arióca Pruanã Extractive Reserve (RESEX), located in the Lower Tocantins Region, PA. For this, data collection was used through semi-structured questionnaires, a field notebook and participant observation, coupled with the Framework tool for the Assessment of Natural Resources Management Systems Incorporating Sustainability Indicators (MESMIS), adapted to the local reality and identifying the essential social actors in the UCS management process. It was noted that after all the indicators evaluated, most agroecosystems presented a sustainability index with an average of 4.57, which indicates that they are in an intermediate situation, needing assistance to strengthen the evaluated indicators and consequently the quality of life community members. Where, the environmental dimension was the one that presented the best value, followed by the social and lastly by the economic. This can be explained by the fact that the community belongs to a Sustainable Use Conservation Unit, where conservation practices and the use of natural resources are supported and monitored more frequently by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBIO) and the Municipal Environment Secretariat . Thus, the application of the MESMIS tool enabled the objectives of the work to be achieved, in addition to being efficient in helping to identify and assess sustainability in family farming areas, as it is an accessible and easy-to-interpret methodology, which can be used as management instrument for the strengthening of other communities and action plan of the competent public bodies.
