In the classical historiography of Amazonian regional evelopment, the period 1920- 1960 is characterized as a time of decay and stagnation of the regional economy, caused by the collapse of the rubber cycle, the fall of local economic groups and aldo state finances. However, this was also a period of expansion of the urban hierarchy networks and a slow but persistent economic
reorganization that manifested itself in the two main cities of the region, Belém and Manaus. In Belém, the recovery was manifested in a small regional industrial sector and in the consolidation of an urban network made possible by the railway infrastructure. In Manaus, after the completion of the modernizing urban project. There was, therefore, another regional history, which, recognized in data, evidence and experiences, made it possible to understand the region from the internal productive forces, which enabled a flourishing of traditional economic activities and contradict the majority reading of stagnation. |
