It fits as an exploratory and descriptive research, as it describes the causes of library closure. Data collection instruments are used: questionnaire with probabilistic sample for accessibility; And interviews with influential people from vigiense society, such as the former mayor of the city who accompanied the beginning of the library and the former director of the library that accompanied his history. The current management of the municipal government was contacted, but did not return the request. The results obtained demonstrate the great use of the Internet as a source for the search of information on the part of the students, in contrast they showed interest in using a public library if it returned to work in the municipality. Demonstra a importância da biblioteca pública municipal de Vigia, município localizado no nordeste do Pará, a qual atualmente encontra-se fechada, apresentando as razões que motivaram essa ação e a lacuna que a biblioteca deixou para a comunidade vigiense, em especial os estudantes dos ensinos fundamental e médio. Enquadra-se como uma pesquisa exploratória e descritiva, pois descreve as causas do fechamento da biblioteca. São utilizados os instrumentos de coleta de dados: questionário com amostra probabilística por acessibilidade; e entrevistas com pessoas influentes da sociedade vigiense, como o ex-prefeito da cidade que acompanhou o início da biblioteca e o ex-diretor da biblioteca que acompanhou sua história. A atual gestão da prefeitura municipal foi contatada, porém não retornou a solicitação.
