This work is a review of the current techniques employed in the problem of mesh
generation for the Finite Element Method (FEM) as applied to the numerical modelling of the
geophysical method for hydrocarbon exploration Marine Controlled Source ElectroMagnetic.
(MCSEM). The Finite Element Method is one of the main tools in the geophysical
electromagnetic modelling for its big scope of applications as well as its versatility in
modeling complex structures. The work in complex environments, like those needed in the
mCSEM studies, makes the construction of finite element mesh is a big challenge, since one
has to meet the requirements of modelling irregular interfaces with reasonable computation
time. Here we describe the techniques of mesh generation and present a few examples coded
in the MATLAB programming language |
