For this, a school was chosen located in the urban area of the municipality of Abaetetuba, which works with elementary school. The work was developed through bibliographical research, based on some authors of the area and an intervention plan carried out in the class. The use of Sousa's English story allows the student to understand and interpret the texts read independently within the Amazonian scenario and leads the teacher to realize the relevance of developing independent, critical and reflexive readers. Therefore, teachers are offered concrete means to carry out coherent activities that favor the insertion of the student in the scope of reading and writing through the use of the story within the Amazon context. Este trabalho tem como objetivo apresentar a aplicação do conto Acauã de Inglês de Sousa, como ferramenta no processo da prática da leitura dos alunos do 7º ano do ensino fundamental. Para isso foi escolhida uma escola localizada na área urbana do município de Abaetetuba, a qual trabalha com ensino fundamental. O trabalho foi desenvolvido por meio de pesquisas bibliográficas, tendo como embasamento alguns autores da área e um plano de intervenção realizado na turma. A utilização do conto de Inglês de Sousa permite que o aluno compreenda e interprete de forma autônoma os textos lidos, dentro do cenário amazônico e leva o professor a perceber a relevância de desenvolver leitores independentes, críticos e reflexivos.
