In this paper, we analyze the so called 'netspeak', a writing graphology emerged in online environments. Our goal was to understand functions of certain terms and expressions of this way of writing in the conversational organization. Thus, based on the methodology of conversation analysis, we describe and study WhatsApp conversations, in which netspeak abbreviations and symbols appear and work as conversational markers. In our investigation, we conclude that in the netspeak, three classes of markers are identified: linguistic, extralinguistic and suprassegmental. |
