Considering the research problem: What competences are required to the nurse of the
Hospital Universitário João de Barros Barreto (HUJBB)? Given these skills, are there gaps?
The purpose of this study was to map competencies described in the individual competencies
of nurses at the HUJBB. This is a qualitative and quantitative study. The qualitative approach
was facilitated by the extension project: "Introduction of strategic tools to the management
of nursing personnel", which resulted in the delineation of the competency roll, which was
a necessary movement to reach the final purpose of this study, which is of a quantitative
nature. The mapping sought to identify the degree of care, based on the self-assessment of
the effective nurses of the HUJBBo, in relation to the competencies described in the Role.
To do so, the action-research method was used, which guided the decisions of a research
group from the construction of the role to the mapping of competencies. In the collection of
data regarding the construction of the role, we used: focus groups, individual interviews and
questionnaires to confirm the importance of the identified competencies. To obtain data
regarding the mapping, the questionnaire was the technique used to obtain the nurses' selfassessment. As a quantitative result we present the design that gave structure to the list of
individual competencies, which is justified by the "speeches" of the nurses' servants. From
the quantitative data it is possible to perceive, through the statistical validation, a greater
appreciation of the managerial competences to the detriment of the others; and through the
mapping, a self-assessment was obtained that corresponds to the "excellent performance"
with some perceivable exceptions to the competencies: "Developing / Applying Research",
"Team Sizing", "Health Education" and "Preceptoria" not performed "and" poorly performed
"; and the competencies: "Systematization of Nursing Care" and "Decision Making" that
were reported with low "low performance". |
