As patient and family members feel well hosted, humanization of the service ensures the family's safety regarding the staff they are attending, making hospitalization process less painful and providing a holistic recovery to patients. The ICU, being a hospital sector for critical patients who need specialized and continuous assistance, is often unable to keep the standard expected by family members regarding the reception by the nurse professional due to intense care routine and work overload. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to describe the perception of family members regarding the nursing care offered by a nurse in a public hospital in the State of Pará. METHODOLOGY: This was an exploratory, observational and descriptive qualitative approach. Twenty patients’ relatives were interviewed in November 2018, following the inclusion criteria: being the relative of a hospitalized patient, over 18 years old, and agreeing to participate in the study by signing The Written Informed Consent Form (WICF). Under age relatives and those who verbally refused were excludes. The data were collected by a semistructured interview, and submitted to thematic analysis. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: . A large number of visitors were not presented to the unit's nurse (60%), and of those interviewed, 17 (85%) would not be able to identify the nurse among the multidisciplinary team. Three thematic units were used for data analysis: importance of knowing the professional; recognition of the nurse as a source of support in the recovery of health; and relative-nurse bonding, where ignorance by a considerable number of relatives about the real function of the nurse in ICU was found. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: It can be concluded that the reception has fundamental importance for creating a bond between patients’ family and healthcare team. Thus, research shows that the nurse meeting the family members would develop nursing as a respected, recognized and protagonist profession in ICU care. INTRODUÇÃO: Por se tratar de um ambiente de grande apreensão, ansiedade e medo, o acolhimento em Unidades de Terapia Intensiva (UTI) é uma das principais formas de criação de vínculo e de confiança entre o enfermeiro, o paciente e seus familiares. Conforme o paciente e familiares se sentem bem acolhidos, a humanização do serviço garante segurança à família quanto à equipe que está atendendo, tornando menos doloroso o processo de hospitalização e proporcionando uma recuperação holística ao paciente. A UTI, sendo um setor hospitalar para pacientes críticos que necessitam de assistência especializada e contínua, muitas vezes não consegue manter o padrão esperado pelos familiares ao que tange o acolhimento pelo profissional enfermeiro devido a rotina intensa de cuidados e a sobrecarga de trabalho. OBJETIVO: O presente estudo teve como objetivo: descrever a percepção dos familiares acerca do acolhimento oferecido pelo enfermeiro em um hospital público no Estado do Pará. METODOLOGIA: Tratou-se de uma pesquisa exploratória, observacional e descritiva de abordagem qualitativa. Foram entrevistados 20 visitantes no mês de novembro de 2018, seguindo critério de inclusão: ser familiar do paciente internado, maior que 18 anos, e concordar em participar do estudo assinando o Termo de Consentimento Livre e Esclarecido (TCLE). Excluiu-se do estudo menores de idade e os que se recusaram verbalmente à entrevista. A coleta se deu por meio de entrevista semiestruturada e os dados submetidos à análise temática. RESULTADOS E DISCUSSÃO: Identificouse grande número de visitantes que não foram apresentados ao enfermeiro da unidade (60%), sendo ainda, desses entrevistados, 17 (85%) não saberiam identificar o enfermeiro entre a equipe multidisciplinar. Foi utilizado para análise de dados três unidades temáticas: A importância de conhecer o profissional; Reconhecimento do enfermeiro como fonte de apoio na recuperação de saúde e O vínculo acompanhante-Enfermeiro, onde pode-se perceber desconhecimento por um número considerável de entrevistados acerca da real função do enfermeiro em UTI. CONSIDERAÇÕES FINAIS: Pode-se concluir que o acolhimento é de fundamental importância para a criação de vínculo equipe-familiar.
