Resumo:
The resistance training (RT) has been one of the most implemented exercises in order to develop physical fitness and athletic conditioning. Most of the models have been used in RT in order to obtain optimized results, especially those related to the manifestation of strength, localized muscular endurance, muscle hypertrophy and power. Periodization is a planned manipulation of the volume and intensity of training. Therefore, aim of this study was to compare the effects of linear periodization (LP) and daily undulating periodization (DUP) models of resistance training (RT) on flexibility for a period of 24 weeks. Thirteen participants of both genders were evaluated being randomly assigned into LP or DUP group. Participants were tested in the pre-training period and at weeks 8, 16 and 24 (post-test) in the sit-and-reach test. At the end of the study it was observed that both groups did not present significant gains of flexibility. These findings demonstrate that RT, alone, does not present a considerable increase of flexibility over the course of 24 weeks. However, DUP can elicit higher results in flexibility gains compared to PL.
