Barreirinha is a marine ambience basin located at the brazilian equatorial margin limited to the east by the Tutóia High, to the west by the Ilha de Santana Platform and to the south by the Sobradinho Platform. To the northwest it is separated from the Pará-Maranhão Basin by the meridian 44º without any geological justification. The two basins resemble each other in lithological content; Lithostratigraphic piling; biostratigraphic piling, and the structural features on the frontier between the two are mixed because the trend of the faults have the same direction NW-SE. The genetic connection between the basins explains the similarities, but it doesn't solve the problem created on the ANP's new areas bidding process in the event of the discovery of a commercial reservoir in one of the two basins. Despite the problematic presented, the interest in the exploitation of Barreirinha's Basin was shown high as the 11ª round of ANP's auctions revealed itself a success with 26 blocs offered from which 19 were acquired adding to the 06 blocs acquired on previous rounds. The possibility of hidrocarbonate production in the basin is relevant for Pará's energetic market considering the proximity and the availability of the utilization of natural gas in the complementary energy generation industry between other uses. Este trabalho visa atualizar as informações acerca da geologia da Bacia do Barreirinhas com intuito de determinar as condições para a ocorrência de petróleo e gás natural além de analisar as dúvidas existentes quanto a delimitação das bordas da bacia e como estas interferem no processo de leilão promovido pela Agência Nacional de Petróleo (ANP) e nas atividade de exploração e produção. Barreirinhas é uma bacia de ambiência marinha situada na margem equatorial brasileira limitada pelo Alto de Tutóia a leste, pela Plataforma da Ilha Santana a oeste e pela Plataforma de Sobradinho a sul. À noroeste é separada da Bacia Pará-Maranhão pelo meridiano 44º sem qualquer justificativa geológica para tal segregação. As duas bacias se assemelham em conteúdo litológico; empilhamento litoestratigráfico; empilhamento bioestratigráfico, e as feições estruturais no limite entre as bacias se confundem por seguirem o mesmo trend de falhamentos com direção NW-SE. A ligação genética entre as bacias explica as similaridades, mas não exclui o problema gerado sobre o processo de licitação de áreas novas realizado pela ANP no caso da descoberta de reservas comerciais em uma das bacias. Apesar da problemática apresentada o interesse na exploração da Bacia de Barreirinhas se mostrou alto com o sucesso da 11ª rodada de leilões da ANP quando 26 blocos da bacia foram ofertados e 19 foram adquiridos se somando aos 06 blocos adquiridos em rodadas anteriores.
