The development this study consisted of four steps: survey literature, analysis of data acquired through CTD during Operation Northern III (1999) Program to REVIZEE from researchers who participated in Operation; map generation horizontal, vertical profiles and map distribution of water masses from the Software Surfer 8.0 and scatter chart from Microsoft Office Excel, and presentation of results. Was found a pattern of distribution coast-offshore, with decreasing the temperature and salinity in this direction increasing, the temperature was higher (29 C) near the coast, a region where salinity has its minimum (4.0), the water column is well mixed, except for one profile, where he was discharged as the vertical stratification temperature and salinity, we identified three water masses on the continental shelf Pará-Maranhão: Coastal Water (CW), Water Mixture (PM) and Tropical Water (TA), which showed heterogeneous distribution. The results are directly related to the dynamics place, since it is a region strongly influenced by the discharge current and the continental North Brazil, and other meteorological and oceanographic forcings. Este estudo foi baseado na análise de dados de temperatura e salinidade da coluna d´água, utilizados para analisar a identificação de massas d´água na plataforma continental Pará-Maranhão. O desenvolvimento deste trabalho constou de quatro etapas: levantamento bibliográfico; análise de dados adquiridos através de CTD durante a Operação Norte III (1999) do Programa REVIZEE a partir de pesquisadores que participaram da Operação; geração de mapa horizontal, perfis verticais e mapa de distribuição das massas d‟água a partir do Software Surfer 8.0 e gráfico de dispersão a partir do Microsoft Office Excel; e apresentação de resultados. Foi encontrado um padrão de distribuição costa-offshore, com a temperatura diminuindo neste sentido e a salinidade aumentando; a temperatura foi maior (29ºC) próximo à costa, região onde a salinidade teve seu mínimo (4,0); a coluna d‟água é bem misturada, com exceção do perfil 1, onde se teve alta estratificação vertical quanto a temperatura e a salinidade; foram identificadas três massas d‟água na plataforma continental Pará-Maranhão: Água Costeira (AC), Água de Mistura (AM) e Água Tropical (AT), as quais apresentaram distribuição heterogênea.
