Pollen studies have been used to the paleoenvironmental reconstruction. As an alternative method, the present work proposes the tannin concentration as indicator of palaeo-mangrove. In order to check this hypothesis, the tannin concentrations were determinate in two sediment cores from Macapá-Amapá and Marajó Island-Pará. These cores were studied by pollen analysis and tannin concentration. The core from Marajó Island presented a relationship between tannin concentration and mangrove pollen, while the Macapa core not indicated tannin and mangrove pollen presence. |
