This work is the result of the Programa Integrado de Apoio ao Ensino, Pesquisa e Extensão (PROINT 2008-2009), of Faculdade de Oceanografia - FAOC (UFPA). The municipal district of Colares is located in the northeast from Pará and the Para river flows at it margin. The reason for the accomplishment of that work was to characterize, the sediments of the western adjacency of the island and analysis for the time during 1984-2006 the line of the coastline of the same. The field stage was accomplished on the days 06 to 10 of December /08 at that time of drought of the river Pará. With the support of the catamaran Spartakus, can take place the collection of sediments for dredge Van Veen and the registry of the co-ordinates in GPS Garmin. The mesh showed was composed by 20 points. The shapes (masks) they were created starting from images, EarthSat and Google Earth Pro, TM 05/25/2010, datum WGS84, and geo-referenced in software Arcgis 9.3. the concentration of organic matter varied between 0,5 and 7,5%, with average of 4,8%. The percentile medium of each class textural it reflected that 51,41% of the total of samples are composed by sand, 42,14% by clay and 6,44% for the fraction clay. In agreement with the classification of Shepard (1954), the sediment of the Island of Colares was classified as sand silt which represented 50% of the samples and as sandy clay 40%, and 5% represented to be sand and the other ones 5% remaining of clay. The lines of outline of the study area revealed the identification of transformations that happened in coastline of the island, along the 26 years (1984-2006).
