The aim of this work is to review the geological literature written about bacia do Parnaiba (Parnaiba basin). The data obtained from review are applied to an oil industry scene, focusing natural gas production. Bacia do Parnaíba has sediments of the Ordovician to the Tertiary intrusive and extrusive rocks, related magmatic events.
Previous geological works point to bacia do Parnaiba as a potencial hydrocarbon target, even an oil-gas pod. However, geoscientists want to increase the geological information about the basin and its hydrocarbon generation environment. Nowadays, whole geological data available need to be renewed, thus they can provide a new interpretation of sedimentary and structural evolution, geological settings and framework. Geological data are an essential tool for oil industry and, in a lack of basin data any explotation is delayed or postponed. The Bill 9478 (new petroleum law) and its biddings restarted the geological surveying about the Brazilian sedimentary basins. However, due the successful exploration of offshore basins the onshore ones were out of sight.
The last part of this work deals with natural gas (NG) production of bacia do Parnaiba and the potential utilization by Para’s energy market. It will be interesting to Para state because its proximity and the NG would be consumed at state’s mineral industry as a heat and electricity source, both of them based on natural gas of such basin. |
