The ground penetrating radar (GPR) has been usefull to obtain images of Neogene and Quartenary siliciclastic deposits from coastal zone of the State of Pará. The geophysical survey based on this tool allowed characterizes deposits of the Barreiras Formation and Pós-Barreiras Unit in the Bragantina Zone area in the Outeiro District, metropolitan area of Belém, State of Pará. The interpretation of 5m depth electromagnetic reflection patterns combined with previous facies data on these deposits, allowed the identification of fluvial shallow paleochannel (up to 3m depth) and its internal sedimentary structures such as inclined heterolithic stratification (IHS) formed under influence of tidal currents. These data extend the knowledge about the facies data relating to Neogene and Quaternary deposits exposed in coastal cliffs of Northeast Pará, now including shallow subsurface data. |
