This work aims to present the result of a survey about the prediction’s possibility of
landslides and rockfalls on the bench faces of the walls of a diabase quarry located
close to the Capivari city in the state of São Paulo. The analyse was based on
Structural Geology techniques by using specific softwares (ROCPLANE, SWEDGE
and SLIDE) headed to seek for potential risk situations and to minimize the risk of
landslides and rockfalls. In order to make the softwares to work it is necessary a lot
of Strutural Geology datas like the massif properties, lithological composition, degree
of weathering , consistency of rocks, major systems of fractures, joints and faults
beside the identification of blocks in unstable situations. As the survey’s result we
have got the more suitable value of the Factor of Safety (FS) for the best slope of
the face bench during the mining development, in order to avoid problems related to
rockfalls, and to have the more geotechnical stability conditions of slopes of the
quarry walls, according to the future use project of the area.
