The main objective was to consider the main difficulties encountered by the population of the islands and make specific proposals to redress these problems. Field work and responses to a questionnaire answered by about 10% of the population made it possible to analyze the socioeconomic profile of the population of two islands (and Combu Murutucum). It was possible to establish a set of proposals for the sustainable development of this important sector of the state of Pará, including the assembly of small water supply systems, using groundwater or rainwater. The use of fruit, fish and ecotourism specific projects are proposed to minimize barriers to employment and income levels. As ilhas presentes no sistema hídrico Guamá-Guajará apresentam sérias dificuldades socioeconômicas que foram objeto desse trabalho. O principal objetivo foi o de equacionar as principais dificuldades encontradas pela população das ilhas e apresentar propostas específicas para sanear essas dificuldades. Trabalhos de campo e as respostas a um questionário respondido por cerca de 10% da população permitiram que se analisasse o perfil socioeconômico da população de duas das ilhas (Combú e Murutucum). Foi possível se estabelecer um conjunto de propostas para o desenvolvimento sustentável desse importante setor do estado do Pará. A montagem de pequenos sistemas de abastecimento de água foi proposta, utilizando as águas subterrâneas ou águas pluviais.
