The loss of hair, scars, among others, end up messing with the imagery of these women regarding beauty. Insecurity, fear of prejudice, shame, are some of the feelings that make these women a lot of times be isolated from society. The aim of this study was to describe the experiences of scalping victims women about body image and analyze the implications of these experiences for the care of itself. This research was descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection was conducted through semi-structured interview technique with open questions also being held sociocultural identification of participants. For content analysis, we chose to use the thematic analysis technique Braun and Clarke. During the analysis it can be seen that 40% of women have between eighteen (18) to twenty five (25) years and thirty-six (36) to forty-five (45) years of age; 60% are single; 100% are from riparian areas; 30% develop activities in their own home; 60% are evangelical; 50% are between twenty-one (21) and thirty years (30) of the accident; and 50% have not finished elementary school. In the analysis emerged four (4) main thematic units: the body before and after the accident; The stigma of the altered body image: a social look; The daily changes facing the altered image and; The importance of a non-governmental organization to support victims of scalping. Through the experiences of these women can be seen various changes caused by the accident in their lives. physical changes such as change in body image and psychological as the constant emotional changes in daily life, relationships, and so many changes from the stigmatizing factor proved to be very present in the lives of these women. The consequences caused by prejudice and also by the very fear of exposure cause the removal of the women of society causing personal and social disorders. Porting realized the importance of the family role and ORVAM the lives of these women as they both help to overcome challenges and to be reintegrated back into society by offering all the necessary support for their recovery and daily overcoming difficulties found. The importance of adopting skills and abilities both technical and scientific cooperation in assistance to these victims by the nursing professionals is giving lectures to contribute and guide for the prevention of scalping, as in nursing care itself, which help to minimize suffering and the risk of possible complications. O escalpelamento é um acidente causado pela falta de segurança nas embarcações, onde em sua maioria, mulheres, tem seu couro cabeludo arrancado devido o contato de seus cabelos com o eixo do motor descoberto. A perda dos cabelos, as cicatrizes, entre outros, acabam mexendo com o imaginário dessas mulheres com relação à beleza. A insegurança, o medo de preconceito, vergonha, são alguns dos sentimentos que fazem com que essas mulheres muita vezes se isolem da sociedade. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi descrever as experiências das mulheres vítimas de escalpelamento acerca da imagem corporal e analisar as implicações dessas experiências para o cuidado de si. Esta pesquisa foi do tipo descritiva com abordagem qualitativa. A coleta de dados foi realizada por meio da técnica de entrevista semiestruturada, com perguntas abertas, sendo realizada também a identificação sociocultural das participantes. Para a análise de conteúdo, foi utilizada a técnica de analise temática de Braun e Clarke. Durante a análise pode-se constatar que 40 % das mulheres têm entre dezoito (18) a vinte e cinco anos (25) e de trinta e seis (36) a quarenta e cinco (45) anos de idade; 60% são solteiras; 100% são oriundas de áreas ribeirinhas; 30% desenvolvem atividades no seu próprio lar; 60% são evangélicas; 50% têm entre vinte e um (21) e trinta anos (30) da ocorrência do acidente; e 50% tem o ensino fundamental incompleto. Na análise emergiram quatro (4) unidades temáticas principais: O corpo antes e depois do acidente; O estigma da imagem corporal alterada: um olhar social; O cotidiano de mudanças frente à imagem alterada e; A importância de uma organização não governamental para apoio de vítimas de escalpelamento. Através das experiências dessas mulheres pode-se perceber as várias mudanças causadas pelo acidente em suas vidas. Mudanças físicas como a alteração da imagem corporal e psicológicas como as constantes mudanças emocionais, no cotidiano, nos relacionamentos, e dentre tantas mudanças o fator estigmatizante mostrou-se bastante presente na vida dessas mulheres. As consequências causadas pelo preconceito e também pelo próprio medo de se expor causa o afastamento dessas mulheres da sociedade acarretando transtornos pessoais e sociais. Portando percebeu-se a importância do papel da família e da ORVAM na vida dessas mulheres à medida que ambas as ajudam a superar os desafios e a serem reinseridas de volta a sociedade, oferecendo todo o apoio necessário para a sua recuperação e superação diária das dificuldades encontradas.
