Resumo:
Birds are the major victim of anthropic actions, such as traffick and habitat destruction. Wild birds kept in captive encourages the illegal trade in animals described as the third largest in the world. In this scenario, we seek to analyze parameters that inform the motivations for the urban population to keep wild birds in the domestic environment. We shared questionnaires on social networks and sixty-one (61) people participated in the survey, most from Belém-PA, Ananindeua-PA and São Paulo-SP, Brazil. From the total of our sample, 24 reported to keep a bird specie in captivity. Among wild bird keepers, 15 have nowadays or have owned a native parrot. Most of the birds in captivity had a preference for seeds, nuts and similar food. They also informed that in the wild birds should seek the same type of food. Thus it is necessary to carry out work that includes environmental education to raise awareness of the welfare of wild animals and their maintenance in the natural environment.
