Resumo:
The estuary of Pará river, located in the amazon region, has great importance regarding local socioeconomic aspects, as fishing is an activity that subsistence and commercial very important to the local inhabitants, the riverside. This estuary, as well as the Pará river itself and other rivers of the vast Amazon region, are the only alternatives of transport and communication for most people who inhabit these places of limited access, and facilitate the transport of goods produced in familiar enterprises as agriculture and fishing. In addition to the factors mentioned above, the estuary of Pará river has a great environmental importance. Within this context there are the Colares Island, specifically the Colares beach, located on the right bank of the bay of Marajó (low estuary of Pará river estuary). This site presents characteristics of semidiurnal tide, and a wide diversity of geomorphological shapes that make geological and oceanographic processes mostly very complex. Considering all the previous information and the need to increase knowledge about the physical oceanographic processes of this site, data were collected over a period of 44 days (10.01.2012 to 13.11.2012) on the Colares beach, where it was observed the variation of temperature and salinity with the local tidal regime. Within this period of time it was noted that the temperature did not show great variations, however salinity, from day 10.12.2012 started to show high increase to local patterns and reached maximum values during periods of spring tide (October 17th to 18th and 29th to 30th) and lowest values in the neap tide periods (Ocotber 7th to 8th and 22th to 23th). This shows that the tides have great influence in raising the salinity of the region, working together with the local climate and possibly boosting the seawater intrusion in the estuary to move into the surface waters and, perhaps, in the strata of the water column.
