Resumo:
The Marajó island consists on the greatest fluvial-island of the world, located in the Amazon. Is currently a great geologic and hydric potential region, besides the economic and social, through fishing, preservation, turism, trasport, activities, among others. For the analysis of turbidity and concentration of suspended particulate matter parameters (SPM), collections were made at four sampling stations around the island in two locations in the South Channel of the Amazon River, and two points in Pará river, the main rivers that constitute the marajoara estuarine system. In order to correlate the turbidity of the water and the distribution of sediment discharge, depending on the tide cicle around the island Marajó, were efectivated vertical profiles with the turbidimeter apparatus and quantification of MPS by the gravimetric method. On the South part of the Marajó the river Amazon originates the Pará river, where on the east part, after the junction with the Tocantins water, create the Marajó bay. Associated with other integrants elements of the island drainage basins, its specific hydrodynamics, seasonal physic-chemical characteristics and tides are fundamental on the water spational turbidity and concentration of suspended particulate matter distribution. The results obtained for every stations were analyzed, compared and associated to other parameters, such as the marine or fluvial influence, and the tide variation, identifying those rivers to the Marajó portions characteristics (western or eastern), to which they belong. The turbidity minimum and maximum values, respectively, varied from 17 FTU on the Pará river to 188.76 FTU in the South Channel. The minimum and maximum quantification of SPM ranged between 11.15 mg/l to 108.46 mg/l, both in Pará river.
